Asphalt shingles cost less up front and suit most Dallas area homes. Metal costs more but lasts far longer, sheds heat, and stands up to hail well. If you plan to stay 15 years or more, metal often pays for itself.

In our climate a good shingle roof lasts around 15 to 25 years. A metal roof can last 40 to 70 years, so it may be the last roof you ever buy on that home.
