Storm checklist

Your after the storm checklist

Short answer

After a storm, check for interior leaks, photograph any visible damage from the ground, and get a free professional roof inspection. Only then decide whether to file an insurance claim. Do not rush a claim before you know what the damage is worth.

  • Check inside first, look for fresh water stains on ceilings and walls and in the attic
  • Photograph anything visible from the ground, dented gutters, debris, damaged siding, do not climb up
  • Do a quick perimeter walk for fallen limbs and shingle pieces in the yard
  • Get a free, documented roof inspection so you know what the damage actually is
  • Decide on an insurance claim with the evidence in hand, not before
  • Keep every photo and the inspection report, it is your proof either way

What not to do

Do not climb onto a wet, storm damaged roof. Do not sign anything with a door knocking roofer who shows up the same day promising to handle everything. And do not file a claim before you know whether the damage is even worth more than your deductible.

When to file a claim

File when a documented inspection shows real damage worth clearly more than your deductible. We meet your adjuster on the roof so the approved scope matches the real damage, and by Texas law we never waive or absorb your deductible.

Next steps: storm and hail damage, a free inspection, and how insurance claims work.

Should I file a claim right away?

Not before you know what the damage is worth. Get a documented inspection first, then file only if the damage clearly exceeds your deductible. A rushed claim can work against you.

How soon should I get a roof inspection after a storm?

Within a week or two is ideal, while the damage is fresh and easy to tie to the storm. It is free, so there is no reason to wait and let a small leak get worse.

Who pays for the storm inspection?

We do, it is free with no obligation, and you keep the photo report whether or not you file a claim or hire us.
